Building a Habit of Excellence

Like the old smart dude said, if you want to operate at any level of excellence, you have to create a habit. Excellence is a process that you have to develop and decide to act on every single day. Because success loves speed the sooner you start the quicker you become excellent.

Habits are formed by a few simple steps. Don’t get me wrong, they require dedication, confidence, time. But you don’t have to overwhelm yourself thinking it requires more time, more effort, or more grit. It isn’t more of anything. You already have what it takes to be excellent. The secret sauce is redirecting your time, effort, and grit to the right things.

So success loves speed, but you’ve got to make sure you are headed in the right direction. What you are doing right now and the priorities you currently have are most likely not what you want to do forever, right? I don’t think you’d be reading this if you didn’t want to do more. So what more? What more do you want? Developing a habit of excellence is definitely going to help you get there.

Even if today is a stepping stone for tomorrow, you can start being excellent by starting to be excellent with where you are now. Recognize that. It can be the simplest task or responsibility, but that is where you are at in life right now, so be excellent at it! You might hate math, but you’re doing it, so be excellent at it. Be the best version of you that you can. Stock boy, cashier, student, no matter if it is temporary work to be the best you possibly can at it.

Start. That is all it takes. Start organizing and pointing your time towards being excellent. Attend every class, show up to work on time, turn in every assignment, do what you say you are going to do. From taking the trash out to completing that big project. Be excellent.

What can you stop doing? What can you start? The answers are entirely up to you, but whatever is coming to mind, get a move on it!
